Fall Festival '04: October 8-10th
Circle K International Convention Kiwanis-A Family United in Service. CKI convention happens every year and all members of CKI are invited to attend. This years convention was held in St. Louis Missouri in conjunction with Key Club International and Kiwanis International. This event allows members in the organization to go to numerous workshops and officer roundtables to become better leaders as well as to learn many things about the organization and the partner programs that clubs can work with. St. Louis is the Gatway To The West, and before the Convention, about 10 of us on the District Tour, took a trip to the Gateway Arch, there visited the musuem and then took the tram to the top, what a view!! The next day the tour a involved a trip to the St. Louis Zoo in the morning and then onto Six Flags in the afternoon. Most of the Convention took place at the historic railyard/ station, known as Union Station. Our job for the large scale service project, included mulching trees in Forest Park, to help beautify the park itself. The convention was packed full of general sessions, educational, leadership, and service workshops. Members were able to meet the Circle K International Board and officers. Another big part of convention were the caucus rounds. During these caucuses, members were able to ask questions to those running for an international office. To keep things lively, one caucus was themed. Our district caucus theme with Kentucky - Tennessee, and Western Canada Districts was Green Acres. We had everyone dress like country folks, or hicks if you like. We had plastic blown up animals, inlcuding an "Evil Chicken" along with a real bail of hay. Then came time for House of Delegates. We had two lively sessions, one on Friday and Saturday morning of the Convention Weekend. Every club is allowed two delegates to vote on amendments to the CKI constitution and elect the new International Board.

Summer Sunshine is a Circle K district event that allows members in Nebraska and Iowa to get aquainted, serve to help out others, and to go camping! This years Summer Sunshine was held at Mahoney State Park near Ashland, NE. Everyone arrived at the park on Friday, May 30th, set up their tents, and prepared for the campfire and smores. Yum-Yum! Saturday started off with breakfast (cooked and served by the District Board) and then we headed off for the service project. We worked with the state park staff to pick up golf balls, clean up some trash, and to paint a lot of wooden posts. We then headed back to our campsite for lunch and had the rest of the afternoon as free time to explore the park. Saturday night we all went to a melodrama and helped the little kids throw popcorn at the villain. It was GREAT! Sunday again was started off with breakfast (the District Board is getting good at this thing called cooking), we all said farewell, and headed on our way home.
